Acharei Mot-Kedoshim, 4 Iyar 5777

April 30, 2017

Our thoughts are very powerful, in fact prayer and meditation are really just focused thoughts. Sometimes we may be distracted during those times of connection by other invading thoughts. One reason to understand and study what we are praying is so that we can put all of our thoughts into the specific prayer we are reciting. This month of Iyar is about healing our thoughts. Prayer and meditation are two good tools that can help us do that. If we learn to focus during those times, then it will be easier for us to do so in the other areas of our lives. One of my favorite sayings is by Rabbi Nachman of Breslov, "You are wherever your thoughts are. Make sure your thoughts are where you want to be." Are our thoughts where we want to be? Think about this quote this week and take time in this new month to make sure they are.

S'firat HaOmer (Counting of The Omer)
S'firat HaOmer begins on the 2nd day of Pesach and continues for 49 days until Shavuot. Each night we will hold a brief community S'firat HaOmer service with meditation at 9:00 PM EDT unless there's another event scheduled. Check our CALENDAR for specific dates and times. You can see what day of the Omer we are on by looking at the top right of our website on any page. Clicking the Day will launch our S'firat HaOmer connection if you wish to do it on your own.

Our Community Needs Your Support
The word "tzedakah" in Hebrew means charity, but actually the word is derived from the root word which means righteousness, justice or fairness. Giving is not viewed as a generous act, it is simply an act of righteousness and justice. Tzedakah is in many ways an exchange of energy and is a visible expression of gratitude in this world for that which we have received. We rely on the generosity of others so that we may make our siddurim (prayer books) and other resources available for all, as well as continue to offer meaningful studies and inspiring services. Please help support our community by making a DONATION. We thank you in advance for your generosity.

Your Hebrew Name
At the end of the Amidah, we whisper a verse from Scripture which is associated with our Hebrew name. Or would you like us to help you choose a Hebrew name and even have a certificate with your Hebrew name and verse? Simply for more information.
