Devarim, 29 Tammuz 5777

July 23, 2017

Tonight we enter a month of complete opposites known as Menachem Av (the Comforting Father). As the month begins we feel the intensity of the sun and the negativity of the first two weeks. It is a time to feel your own brokenness, to feel the brokenness of the world. You may even feel moved to tears because of experiencing this brokenness. It is ok to cry, tears are a part of healing and purification. On the 9th of Av (Tisha B'Av) we will come to the climax of this negative period, a day of fasting and next to Yom Kippur the most important fast day of the year. As we approach the 15th of Av (Tu B'Av), things will dramatically change and very quickly. Tu B'Av is the day where the sun's energy is the most powerful, and according to the Kabbalists, it is the most joyous day of the year because harmony exists in the entire universe between all vessels and the Creator's Light. As we begin this new month, let us find joy in all facets of the journey. When you feel like crying, then cry and be thankful to experience this part of life. When you feel happiness and bliss, cry and be thankful to experience this aspect of life as well and know that Hashem will be there to comfort you.

The Month of Av (Leo)
The new month of Av begins on Sunday night, July 23, 2017. For more information about Av, please click here. On Tuesday night we will talk about the energy of Rosh Chodesh Av after our Selichot service.

The Three Negative Weeks
The Bein Ham'tzarim normally begins with the 17th of Tammuz (Tuesday, July 11, 2017). These are the three most negative weeks of the year. During this time we should keep in mind the idea of restricting our ego nature. We fast from red meat and wine (except on Shabbat) and we make a point of making extra time for meditation. Click here for a special Kabbalistic meditation for The Three Weeks.

Our Community Needs Your Support
The word "tzedakah" in Hebrew means charity, but actually the word is derived from the root word which means righteousness, justice or fairness. Giving is not viewed as a generous act, it is simply an act of righteousness and justice. Tzedakah is in many ways an exchange of energy and is a visible expression of gratitude in this world for that which we have received. We rely on the generosity of others so that we may make our siddurim (prayer books) and other resources available for all, as well as continue to offer meaningful studies and inspiring services. Please help support our community by making a DONATION. We thank you in advance for your generosity.

Get Your Kippah On!
Check out our selection of kippot at KippahDIVA.com. You will find a wide selection of kippot to suit your style and you can even choose your own colors. Each kippah is made to order and handmade with love & Light. The proceeds of all sales go to support our work here at Kabbalah4All.

Your Hebrew Name
At the end of the Amidah, we whisper a verse from Scripture which is associated with our Hebrew name. Would you like to know your Hebrew name and the verse from the Tanach which is associated with your name? Or would you like us to help you choose a Hebrew name and even have a certificate with your Hebrew name and verse? Simply for more information.
