Ki Teitzei, 5 Elul 5777

August 27, 2017

One of the Virgo's traits is criticism, and not only criticism of others but also criticism of self.  To criticize means to point out the faults of someone or something in a disapproving way.  We live in a time where criticism is rampant.  We see it on reality shows, we see it on Twitter and Facebook and other forms of social media, we see it in the workplace, and we even see it at home.  And sometimes people preface it with the word "constructive," thinking that they are softening the blow.  Why do we feel the need to criticize others and criticize ourselves?  There is not one person walking the earth that does not have at least one fault.  We need to rise above our ego and transform this need to criticize.  How do we do this?  We can start by noticing the good traits in others and in ourselves.  Be quick to praise the good deeds of others rather than jump at the chance to tear them down.  During this week of Elul as we prepare for Rosh Hashanah, let us examine the ways we criticize ourselves and others and see if we can make a positive change for the new year ahead.  And remember, as you look over the past year and see how you have been negative towards others, be sure to replace the inner critic with the inner caretaker.

Please Donate To Keep Kabbalah4All Going
The word "tzedakah" in Hebrew means charity, but actually the word is derived from the root word which means righteousness, justice or fairness. Giving is not viewed as a generous act, it is simply an act of righteousness and justice. Tzedakah is in many ways an exchange of energy and is a visible expression of gratitude in this world for that which we have received. We rely on the generosity of others so that we may make our siddurim (prayer books) and other resources available for all, as well as continue to offer meaningful studies and inspiring services. Please help support our community by making a DONATION. We thank you in advance for your generosity.
