Vayishlach, 8 Kislev 5778

November 26, 2017

What is darkness? What is evil? The Kabbalists view evil as a matter of distance rather than the opposite of good. Let's say that you light a campfire in the forest and start to walk away from it. What happens? Well you begin to see less as you get further and further away. You might be far away and see the campfire in the distance, even if you seem to be surrounded by darkness. When we give in to our selfish desires, when we don't share with others, we distance ourselves from the Creator's Light. When we speak negatively and gossip, we venture into the darkness. Maybe we have found ourselves in the dark, maybe we have felt alone, maybe we have felt cut off from the Light. The good news is that the antidote to darkness is Light. Each and every one of us have a spark of Divine Light within us. True the ego may try to diminish It, however, the Light is still there somewhere. When we connect to that spark within through loving our neighbor, through sharing, through good deeds then that spark grows brighter and brighter and dispels the darkness not only within us, but also around us. It is in this month that we are reminded of the Light shining in the darkness. May we truly allow our sparks to grow and dispel the darkness that surrounds us.

Kabbalah Study Now On Monday Nights!
We have begun a new Kabbalah Study on Monday nights. This Monday night, November 27th, we will continue with our study of the mystical AlefBet as we focus on the letters of Yud, Kaf, and Lamed.

NEW Perek Shirah Page
Perek Shirah is an ancient text of unknown authorship, although many commentaries attribute it to King David. It takes the form of a list of eighty-four elements of the natural world. Everything in creation praises its Creator. The lessons can assist us on our journey. Rabbi Eliezer said, Anyone who involves themselves with Perek Shirah in this world, merits saying it in the next world. Kabbalah4All will be working on a new photo each week with a verse until we complete all 84. Click Here to go to our new Perek Shirah page.

Your Donation Helps To Keep Our Community Going
The word "tzedakah" in Hebrew means charity, but actually the word is derived from the root word which means righteousness, justice or fairness. Giving is not viewed as a generous act, it is simply an act of righteousness and justice. Tzedakah is in many ways an exchange of energy and is a visible expression of gratitude in this world for that which we have received. We rely on the generosity of others so that we may make our siddurim (prayer books) and other resources available for all, as well as continue to offer meaningful studies and inspiring services. Please help support our community by making a DONATION. We thank you in advance for your generosity.
