Vayeshev, 15 Kislev 5778

December 3, 2017

Sleep is the focus for healing during this month of Kislev. The kabbalists tell us that sleep is 1/60th of death, while dreams are 1/60th of prophecy. It is important for us to take advantage of sleep this month. It gets darker earlier and often it is cold and gray outside during this time of the year. This can make people feel sleepy. Allow yourself to sleep for longer periods of time. There are many wonderful aids to assist us with sleep that are natural and inexpensive. One of those is cds designed to help people sleep better.  In addition to cds, there are also apps for mobile phones specially designed to promote a good night's rest.  Another aid is aromatherapy. Herbs like lavender, chamomile, and peppermint relax us. Drinking a tea of these herbs or even having a sachet of them in our pillow can assist us with deeper sleep. When we sleep deeply, we wake up rested and renewed. The word "Kislev" comes from the Hebrew word for trust. Kabbalah teaches that there are two states of trust, one active and the other passive. Both of these are manifested in this month. The miracle of Chanukah reflects active trust and the healing of sleep reflects the passive trust that the Light of the Creator always guards us. The 72 Name in the banner at the top of this newsletter can assist us with sleep as well as dreams. May we sleep and dream well this month.

Kabbalah Study Now On Monday Nights!
We have begun a new Kabbalah Study on Monday nights. On Monday night, December 4th, we will look at the upcoming holiday of Chanukah and talk about its energy and minhagim (customs).

NEW Perek Shirah Page
Perek Shirah is an ancient text of unknown authorship, although many commentaries attribute it to King David. It takes the form of a list of eighty-four elements of the natural world. Everything in creation praises its Creator. The lessons can assist us on our journey. Rabbi Eliezer said, Anyone who involves themselves with Perek Shirah in this world, merits saying it in the next world. Kabbalah4All will be working on a new photo each week with a verse until we complete all 84. Click Here to go to our new Perek Shirah page.
Your Donation Helps To Keep Our Community Going
The word "tzedakah" in Hebrew means charity, but actually the word is derived from the root word which means righteousness, justice or fairness. Giving is not viewed as a generous act, it is simply an act of righteousness and justice. Tzedakah is in many ways an exchange of energy and is a visible expression of gratitude in this world for that which we have received. We rely on the generosity of others so that we may make our siddurim (prayer books) and other resources available for all, as well as continue to offer meaningful studies and inspiring services. Please help support our community by making a DONATION. We thank you in advance for your generosity.
